Lake Tahoe Cabin
This roomy Lake Tahoe cabin was comically referred to as “Nightmare on 9th” by the homeowners before Kristen Elizabeth was brought on to oversee the gut and redesign of the entire interior space.
The original structure was full of choppy passages and room placement, wasted space, and small rooms. Our goal was to create a first floor that fused together family and entertaining areas while maintaining proper room delineation and provide a fluid traffic pattern for lots of visitors. On the second and third floors, bathrooms were added to the master suite (s) and a laundry room created.
The owners, from the east coast, love the mountains, but did not want an overwhelming aesthetic of “ Tahoe mountain cabin”. We created design schematics that brought elements from the outside in, such as a river rock surround for the fireplace, painted beams in the kitchen and left the remaining decor to reflect touches of their favorite alpine activities.
The chosen palette was neutral whites grounded in dark walnut floors. Hints of blue were added in carefully chosen spaces such as the entry and the stairway walls to give nod to the waters of the lake. All bathrooms have a natural stone floor further enhancing the alpine environment.
